New Release: Matt DeMello returns with epic 'Christmas psych' 2xLP 'Cassandra Abandoned, I & II'
It's the most wonderful time of the year!... When everyone stops playing holiday music and basks in the glory of a new year. Just in time for the occasion, musical shitposter and cultist singer-songcyclist Matt DeMello returns from his streaming festivals pandemic hibernation to deliver a double-disc, 2-hour-and-nine-minute monstrosity of a release he calls Cassandra Abandoned, I & II [Marion's Version].
Self-described as "music for grinches, nincumpoops, and curmugeons of all kinds," Cassandra features no less than 3 tracks in excess of 25 minutes, including one MIDI-prog opera about people who stop picking up the phone around Christmas, an improvised solo piano performance, and a soundscape constructed from "Paulstretched" nuclear test recordings. More than anything, Cassandra is a love letter to the many genres and artists DeMello has encountered in his Bandcamp Twitter travels from across garage rock, stoner metal, vapor and adjacentwave, math rock, prog, big beat, dreampunk, lo-fi, folk, and ambient.
Released at midnight amid the doomscrolling New Year's Eve 2021 and featuring DeMello's popular 2019 single "(Nobody Cares About) the Days After Christmas", Cassandra Abandoned is the perfect apocalyptic chaser for the holiday musical hangover.
Matt DeMello is a multi-instrumentalist bricolage audio producer, sound artist, composer, and songwriter who was exiled from the prog and math rock scenes of Providence, RI just after the Great Recession, only to arise from the ashes of the Trump Era as grand trickster in the ever colorful court of 2021 Bandcamp Twitter. He now resides quite happily in Peekskill, NY with his love and frequent musical collaborator Jennifer Nordmark along with their extremely handsome cat, Brian Wilson.
