About Us

Oh where to begin, and when ... exactly to care?

Ahem *Steve Bailey voice*..

2005 is a great year to start in this sense. The year of release for both Mystic Valley Parkway by the Federalists and Grand Experiment by, ahem, "*The*" Stalemate... Twin peaks of early creativity from northeast DIY juggernauts-to-be in their teen years.

Both albums circulated through New England college dorm servers on both sides of the Mass-Connecticut line through the back-end of the Bush era... and most reliably represents the start of something special — a friendship (some might call a "network") of musical proportions that waxed and waned in cooperation over the years but was lead by, among many ideals:

… "Keep going. But make it nuts." "We'll find out when we get there.." "By-in-large." "This is our first, bold step into a much larger world." …

Just a few of many such words of confidence traded back and forth by Salieri founder Stephen Bailey and (largely antagonist-in-chief) Matt DeMello from the (then- "Dreaded Year") of 2009 that predicated "actually getting something off the ground... sort of?" in Fall 2015. What some might call a "label" under the Salieri Records name regularly starts regularly publishing material around this time.

You can find Steve's affectionate reissue of the aforementioned Federalists' classic LP above. Many perusing this page will also remember a number of great records, let's call it "Salieri Records Mach 1", put out from Fall 2015 for another 15 months.

Among this music of note - Small Victories by The Sharp Shadows (lead, as presently, by Bailey), the definitive Last Waltz of Forest Henderson, and Ian Cat's East Coast New England Boy. Ian, the Shadows with Steve, and the remaining Federalists parted ways with Salieri amicably around 2017 or so having fulfilled their every dream with the project, including giving DeMello’s 2014 LP There’s No Place Like Nowhere a proper cassette release.

Then, let's call it "Salieri Records Mach 2" re-err- .. convenes in 2021 with the release of the Advent Aspects compilation by Vicarious Ardents - a discord of ambient artists looking to raise some money in a new year for a struggling friend.

Among the contributors to the three-plus hour ambient sequence is "singer song-cyclist" Matt DeMello, of sometime Providence and Brooklyn-based maximalist infamy. Retaining legacy recordings from DeMello's back catalog, Forest Henderson from the original Salieri roster, along with additions in the Long Island psych institution theULTIMATESketch, and Abba-esque DIY pop quartet Blaze Pascal: Salieri rides again.

Also in 2021, the Salieri Records family is happy to welcome Providence post-lounge legends Volcano Kings to our roster.
